This ultra-fine foamed polyurethane sheet is engineered to suppress stray light inside optical and precision instruments, reaching a total reflectance of just 0.7% — well beyond the standard Fineshut SP (1.2%). Why Fineshut KIWAMI?
Fineshut KIWAMI is a special upgrade of Fineshut SP that improves the surface shape to further enhance anti-reflective performance. Its surface is formed with fine light-shielding grooves that absorb light entering perpendicular to the grooves, delivering excellent anti-reflection performance across a wide wavelength range while keeping the durability and easy handling of the Fineshut foams.
The base material is a fine urethane foam similar to Fineshut SP, so it retains contact resistance, water resistance and low outgassing — with none of the hair-loss problems specific to flocking.

Fineshut KIWAMI maintains stable, high absorption from UV through visible light and into the near-infrared, making it well suited to cameras, sensors and instruments that must run without stray light.

Handling & Application
Fineshut KIWAMI comes pre-laminated with an adhesive tape because the thin material is easier and safer to handle with a backing. Peel the release film and apply to a clean, dry surface. To maximize the light-absorbing effect of the groove structure, make sure the grooves run perpendicular to the light source. Note that slight light transmission can occur due to the micro-foaming and grooves, so it is not intended for full light-shading applications.
Custom shapes and sizes beyond the standard specifications can be laser-cut to order — ideal for small lots and prototype parts. Please contact us for a quote.

How does KIWAMI differ from Fineshut SP?
KIWAMI is an upgraded grade with an improved surface shape, lowering total reflectance to 0.7% (vs. 1.2% for SP) for noticeably deeper black and better stray-light suppression.
What is the difference between KIWAMI and KIWAMI XX?
KIWAMI (0.7%) absorbs best perpendicular to its grooves. KIWAMI XX (0.5%) is the flagship: it absorbs omnidirectionally and is the blackest grade in the series.
Does it work in the near-infrared?
Yes. Absorption stays high across the near-infrared, so it performs well for LiDAR and NIR sensing where flocked fabrics drop off.
Will it shed particles?
No — unlike flocking, the foamed-polyurethane structure produces very little particulate, so it suits sensitive components and clean rooms.
Can I use it for full light-shading?
No. Slight transmission can occur through the micro-foaming and grooves, so it is designed for anti-reflection rather than complete shading.

* When viewed by the naked eye, each person's perception of "blackness" may differ depending on the lighting environment and other conditions.
Total reflectance values of our materials are based on the industry-standard AOI 8° index. Total reflectance is the measurement result of combining both diffuse reflection and specular reflection measurements. AOI 8° means that the light is incident at an angle of 8° from the normal.
For example, based on this index, our "Foam" series consistently absorbs light from ultraviolet to near-infrared light ranges. This performance is achieved by the uneven structure derived from the foaming process and the composition of carbon atoms blended into the resin.
We also offer a variety of fabrics. Our entry-level “VL Flock Sheet” is cost-effective and provides strong light-absorption performance in the visible light range. In contrast, our “IR Flock Sheet” provides improved ultraviolet and excellent infrared light-absorption performance, which are the weak points of the entry-level VL Flock Sheet. Our premium fabrics, Musou Black Fabric FR and Musou Black Fabric KIWAMI, are our blackest products and have the best visible-light absorbing performances. The FR variant is treated to be fire-resistant and is great for indoor use. Meanwhile, our flagship, Musou Black Fabric KIWAMI, is the World’s Blackest Fabric in the visible-light range.
Musou Black Paint's light-absorption performance will vary depending on the painting method, so please keep that in mind when applying. For best results, please apply with an air-brush.
